To create a more valuable way for cloud-transition, HP has announced HP Converged Cloud, the industry’s first hybrid delivery approach and portfolio based on a common architecture spanning traditional IT, private, managed and public clouds.
HP Converged Cloud brings together industry-leading HP Converged Infrastructure, HP Converged Management and Security, Converged Information and hardened OpenStack™ technology.
“The convergence of cloud computing and mobile connectivity is changing the way infrastructures are built, applications are developed and information is delivered,” said Neelam Dhawan, managing director, HP India. “HP Converged Cloud enables enterprises to incorporate a blend of public, private and managed cloud services with their existing IT to create a seamless hybrid environment that rapidly adapts to their changing requirements.” [Source: Press Release]
HP Converged Management and Security uses a standards-based approach to provide this functionality. It leverages the OpenStack™ Project as a foundational component for a common cloud resource, management, and security abstraction layer. OpenStack is a collection of open source technologies that provides a massively scalable open source cloud computing platform.
To deliver enterprise-grade capabilities, HP has extended the standard set of OpenStack services to include application life cycle management, continuous deployment, management and security. This supports easier migration, cloud-bursting, better security audits, and the large ecosystem of compatible tools and services that work across cloud providers that support OpenStack.
A fundamental part of the HP Converged Management and Security solution, HP Converged Infrastructure as a Service Controller (HP Converged IaaSC) provides an abstraction layer that exposes a standardized computing mesh independent of the physical compute infrastructure. This allows true separation of the deployment model. It also provides ubiquitous access to the HP Converged Management and Security solution, allowing traditional IT, private clouds, managed clouds and public clouds to be managed and secured.
The powerful combination of these elements allows the HP Converged Management and Security solution to make smart decisions on workload placement polices, such as selecting the appropriate delivery model available based on the combination of usage, data sensitivity and performance characteristics required.
